Which resort, which drive
The Dolomites are a mountain range, not a single town, so the drive depends on where you sleep. Cortina d'Ampezzo is the closest of the big resorts to Venice, about 147 km from Marco Polo. Alleghe, below Monte Civetta, is about 144 km away and Arabba about 163 km. Alta Badia, with Corvara and San Cassiano, is about 172 km, and Val Gardena, with Ortisei, about 203 km. Type the exact address of your hotel into the form: the price per vehicle for it appears before you book.
The DolomitesWhere the driver meets you
Most mountain trips start at Marco Polo: with the flight number in your booking, the driver knows your real arrival time and greets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, so you are on the road as soon as you have your bags. If you spend a few days in Venice first, the driver meets you at Piazzale Roma at a point agreed beforehand, or at your hotel in Mestre. From Piazzale Roma to Cortina it is about 156 km: 425 EUR in a Standard Sedan, 560 EUR in a Premium Van, per vehicle. The driver arrives early and adapts if your plans change on the day.
Venice → CortinaThe road to Cortina
From the lagoon the car takes the A27 motorway north towards Belluno, then the Alemagna road (SS51), which climbs the Piave and Boite valleys through the Cadore to Cortina. The motorway part is quick; the last stretch is a mountain road, slower on winter weekends and in August. Allow about 2 h 05 from the airport in normal traffic. In Cortina the driver takes you to your hotel where traffic rules allow, otherwise to the nearest point, agreed beforehand. Standard Sedan 405 EUR, Comfort Sedan 425 EUR, Standard Van 440 EUR, Premium Van 525 EUR, per vehicle.
Cortina d'AmpezzoAlta Badia, Val Gardena and Braies
The deeper into the Dolomites you go, the longer the drive. From Piazzale Roma to San Cassiano in Alta Badia it is about 185 km, about 2 h 45; to Ortisei in Val Gardena about 212 km, about 3 h 35. Lago di Braies, in the Val Pusteria, is about 3 h 05 away. By Standard Sedan, San Cassiano costs 505 EUR and Ortisei 580 EUR, per vehicle. On a drive this long, tell the driver whenever you would like a short break. The form shows the price for every address in the valleys.
Venice → DolomitesSkis, boots and luggage
A snow holiday means more luggage than a city break: skis or snowboards, boot bags, sometimes a pushchair. When you book, write in the notes how many ski bags you are bringing. With ski gear a van is often the better choice even for two or three people: if in doubt, ask before you book. Both vans seat up to 7 with their bags, and since you pay for the car, children add nothing to the price. Child seats and booster seats are included on request, and there is air conditioning and free Wi-Fi on board for the hours on the road.
The fleetThe way back to your flight
For the trip home, work backwards from your flight time: about 2 h 05 from Cortina to Marco Polo in normal traffic, then your airline's check-in times, then a margin for mountain traffic and the weather on the day. On winter weekends, when many guests arrive and leave, the valley roads are slower: set off earlier. Pickup is at your hotel where traffic rules allow, otherwise at the nearest point, agreed beforehand. Cortina to Marco Polo in a Standard Sedan is 405 EUR, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before.
